    Birthday Post

I thought I would post on my birthday and catch the world up on my very boring life   So the fall semester of law school is over and grades were ok.  Sometimes it seems completely random how grades in law school works.  But anyway this semester is a whole new ball games.  The school I attend decided to up the ante by giving us six classes this semester and one very long legal brief to write.  So needless to say I have been extreemly busy this semester.  And then I have to argue the brief in a moot court competition.  So that is law school.  The only thing I regret about law school so far is never having the time to really think about the ideas we talk about in class.  All the subjcts are merging together in a way I truly never thought possible.  I read this torts case the other day about this really terrible accident involving a lady who was trying to unclog a drain with various chemicals.  Ultimately the lady died but putting the wrong chemicals together down the drain.  But it was a case involving tort law and envriomental law.  Facinating how the fields all merge together.

In political news, I have been completely taken by all the primary and caucuses.  This election is shaping up to be a rerun of the last seasons of the West Wing.  I do think Barack Obama is much better than Matt Santos and John McCain probably makes a better Arnie Vinick as a maverick senator.  It is exciting all the of the candidates are pretty much coming to San Antonio.  Hillary Clinton last week and Barack Obama came yesterday.  Mike Huckabee is coming on Thursday.  It is going to be facinating election cycle. I do think Hillary will pay a major price for not competiting in red states and losing for a long time before Texas and Ohio.  I mean one New Yorker already tried that strategy and lost.

So my birthday.  I don't really know what to say about it.  I really do think it is just another year except for the fact, I finally have life back on track with God's help.  I know I could not have made it through the last couple of year without my family's and God's help.  I really do thank all the people I have meet in the last couple of years, from the Gov Rel group in OKC, the staff in OKC, the people I have met in law school and else where  I have truly have begun to realize that people have enriched my life in ways I could not imagine.  Thank you.

    Living...

So I have not written here in a while in the wonderful world of Xanga...So where to begin.  Early August I went to DC to spend time with my very good friends Alex and Billy.  We wondered around DC for a day or two and had truly great conversations.  Thanks guys for the memories.  Then I returned to Dallas and completed my last week at the law firm I worked for.  Oh that last week.  Texas does not have a personal state income tax...but the state has to its money in other ways.  It is in the Texas constitution that we cannont have a state income tax...I remember we I met the former Lt. Gov of Oklahoma she told me she wanted Oklahoma to be like Texas and have not state income tax.  Well anyway Texas started this margins tax which is sort of a tax on business net profits.  Well it affected the firms billing.  So I was stuck re-doing one of the partners bills for that last week.  Any I was taken out to lunch by the firm.  I got a great card and a Walmart gift card.  Then over that weekend I packed and got ready to leave for San Antonio.  Monday morning my parents and I drove down to the campus of St. Mary's.  I did all the various things a new student is suppose to do like pay my bill, get a student id, parking sticker, move into dorm.  Then on Thursday was orientation introducing us to the life of a law student.  I think the law school is really great.  My professors are great.  The guy who teaches us civil procedure (a course about the rules of trial) has to be one of the smartest guy I have ever met.  He was the legal advisor for the special forces troops.  He walks into class and ask what certain Latin phrases mean...random history dates...but all of the prof are great...San Antonio is an interesting city.  The city is doing this construction which has truly messed up the streets and highways...So that's a quick recap of my life...law school is truly boring...all it is reading, reading and more reading...why did I ever want to do this...
